Weekend Review

With the hot weather continuing, the Oaks have another busy weekend ahead as the season enters it’s final third.

The First XI have a short journey to Alresford and will be looking to build momentum after a sensational fightback against Sparsholt last weekend.

With Scott Bright, Paddy Saines and Dan Jones all unavailable, Clive Welsman and newlywed, Neil Warner, return, with Jana Varathan making his Oakley debut.

With last week’s half-century maker, Paddy Saines, away, the Oaks will be looking for continued improvement with the bat in the middle order after encouraging efforts from Tom Holbrook, Michael Wood and Alex Brundle last week.

High Pies: Welsman returns

The Second XI appear heavily depleted and will be looking once again to Steve Savage, George Lethaby, Jack Brundle and Brad Compton-Bearne to get amongst the runs to build a base for an inexperienced lower order.

On Form: George and Steve

The Two’s ran high-flying Langley Manor close last week but 1 run between six batsmen (including 5 ducks) tells its own story, and made a seven run defeat all the more galling. Pete Holcroft and Deano James come in and Raj Niranjan makes his Oakley debut.

A stirring performance last week by Bob ‘The Oakley Express’ Lethaby gives captain, George Lethaby, an unorthodox bowling alternative to pace, and if the lower order batsmen can contribute, the Oaks should at least be able to compete with fourth placed Easton & Martyr Worthy.

Teams:

First XI: Dique, Sumner, Welsman, Holbrook, A Brundle, N Warner, Varathan, Potter, Wood, Sapumannage, Dimond (C)

Second XI: Savage, J Brundle, G Lethaby, B Compton Bearne, Niranjan, B Lethaby, Gray, Holcroft, James, B King, P King
