Firsts off to a Winning Start as the Seconds get Washed Out!

A great start to the season was had by the first team today as they dodged the showers to beat Petersfield in a close encounter at Oakley Park.

Three wickets apiece for Jack Green and Julian Worthington helped reduce Petersfield to 111 all out and a feisty 20 from Sam Holbrook, plus a well measured 23 not out from Michael Wood backed up a classy 50 from the returning Scott Bright.

The seconds made a 90 mile round trip to Easbourne in West Sussex only to be thwarted by a plethora of downpours. Bob Lethaby and Jack Brundle battled hard to see off the openers on an unpredictable pitch and Dan Sumner and Callum Van Dyk were both looking in good touch before the rain set in again.

Sadly, the game was aborted with Oakley just starting to push along at 26-3 on what was almost certain to be a low scoring pitch; a close contest looked in store but despite the efforts of Easbourne to get the match played, it just wasn’t to be.

The rain ended any hopes of a result for the seconds today

What was really promising was the dedication from both teams to dig in and get a result, something that was perhaps missing a bit last season and many of contributions today came from former Colts players, which is a really encouraging sign for the season ahead.

Well done to all involved in both matches today;  it was fantastic to see so much positivity at the club again.
