Oaks overpowered by Basingstoke
Oakley Ladies’ final match up of the season saw them take on Basingstoke, themselves in contention to top the table come the final standings.
Put into bat by the opposition, Oakley made a steady start, taking the singles when the opportunity presented itself, but Basingstoke’s accurate bowling meant they had to really work to keep the scoreboard moving. Unfortunately the pressure to get runs started to tell and mistakes began to creep in, leading to wickets being lost. At the end of the innings Oakley found themselves with a sub-par 68-6.
Any chance of snatching an unlikely victory dissipated very early on, as Basingstoke went about knocking off the total in double quick time. Heads didn’t go down though, and with the pressure off, Oakley’s bowlers began to find their rhythm, and the effort was rewarded, first with Lucy nabbing her fifth wicket of the season, and Evie taking her first with a caught behind in just her second match.
Oakley finish the season with 3 wins from 7, but come away all the more experienced for it. Next up is a friendly against Hook next week, before the Cricket Festival on 13th September.
