Oaks Claim Moral Victory at Crondall

The Sunday Oaks claimed a victory of sorts but just failed to get Crondall all out in a timed game on a cool and cloudy Sunday afternoon.

Batting first, there were a couple of good knocks for DJ and AB who both retired on 50 and an excellent debut for Mike Tiley, who fell just one short of a half-century. Not good enough Mike!

Ian Bennett made 21, making up for a hideous golden duck on Saturday, handing that responsibility over to Brad Compton-Bearne, who continues to impress with his entertaining death or glory batting.

Every cricket stroke Brad plays, whether it is a huge six or a heave at thin air, has the ability to draw enough laughter to consider hiring him out to the Anvil for ‘An Evening with Brad and a Bowling Machine’.

It would be winner I’m telling you it would. Just watching the staff handing out helmets to the audience as they walked in, would be worth the entrance fee.

The Oaks batted for 36 Overs setting a challenging total of 228.

Golden Duck: Brad Compton – Bearne

In reply, Crondall were never really in it, with Tom Barnes and Brad Compton-Bearne taking three wickets apiece. Mike Tiley, enjoying a fine debut, took 2 more, with captain, Ian Bennett taking the other with his express pace.

It was a good game, played in a good spirit as always and a great introduction for Mike as he settles in to his new club and calculates how many village idiots we occupy each week.

It is an unenviable amount.

Up the Oaks!
