Ladies Oaks Bag A Trophy At Hook Festival

Sunday saw the ladies head over to Hook to take part in a day of fun, all arranged to raise money for Brain Tumour Research and Victorias Promise. In amongst the fun there was some cricket to be played, and with a format of 8 x 4 ball overs a side, every run counted and the teams had to be at their best.

The Oaks faced Overton first up, but were unable to repeat last week’s result and fell to a defeat. Second up were hosts Hook, whom Oakley dispatched with ease. Fleet’s win over Overton meant that the ladies knew they could tie it up at the top of the table with a win in their final game. Some excellent fielding meant that the opposition never really looked like chasing down the target, and so three teams finished with 2 wins from their 3 matches.

To settle things the teams were called to the middle for a dramatic 3-way bowl-off. Ball after ball passed by the stumps as we entered into sudden death. With the advantage of going last, Oakley knew that as long as everyone kept missing, hitting the stumps would give them the win. After countless nervous moments as deliveries flashed agonisingly wide Gemma finally sent the bails flying to give Oakley Ladies the win sparking champagne celebrations and giving the team their first ever trophy.

Having started just three seasons ago the team have gone from strength to strength and this trophy is a well-deserved reward for the effort of the team and thanks must go to Ian and Scottie for transforming the ladies from a group of individuals who had never played the game before to a team that go into games believing they can win.

Thanks must also go to Hook who put on a very well organised day. Everything went smoothly and ran to time (no mean feat at these events!) and all in attendance had a great time, so congratulations to them for making it a success.
