We didn’t quite have enough to overcome a very strong Basingstoke Hockey Club side tonight, featuring several players who spend their Saturdays playing cricket a few leagues above us.
We gave it a good go, and in-form Nathan Scarff continued his excellent run with a well-made 50 to give us a sniff of posting a competitive total.
In truth though, it soon became apparent we’d probably have needed something closer to 200 to really put them under pressure, and BHC reached the target with relative ease.
One of those evenings where there can be no complaints. The better side won, but it was played in a great spirit throughout.
Congratulations to Basingstoke Hockey Club, and thanks for allowing us to concentrate on the league now! Best of luck in the semi-final.
