This Week’s Honours Board
Not a lot of runs about this week, with three relatively low-scoring matches played on local dust bowls.
Kunal Solanki led the way, whacking a trademark 60 over at Bramley, while Josh Carpenter’s 41 at Oakley Park proved pivotal on a difficult batting track.
Meanwhile, 13-year-old Will Rutt looked a fine player in the making with a dashing 35 for the 3s. A class-ridden 13 not out from Bob Lethaby also deserves a mention, if only because he is writing this post.
With the ball, Ben Weller-Evans was in terrific form for the 2s, taking 4 wickets for just 12 runs and narrowly pipping the exceptional Stef Kaltner, who continued to blaze a trail in the First XI with 4-24. Stef is now breathing down DJ’s neck in the race to be the club’s leading wicket-taker, while both continue to feature prominently among the league’s leading bowlers.
There was also a cracking moment for 14-year-old Ed Tucknott, who picked up his first, second and third senior Oakley wickets. Another youngster who looks a very promising all-round prospect.
So, all in all, a decent day.
The First XI are fighting hard for second spot and promotion, the 2s are finishing strongly with the threat of relegation now a distant memory, and the 3s continue to give youth its chance.
And it’s working out just dandy.
