2021 AGM

The 2021 annual general meeting took place this week with all the positions for the committee filled and the membership & subscription fees agreed.

Even though it wasn’t the red carpet affair of recent years, it was still a thrilling evening on Zoom, with several moments of drama regarding the appointment of Sunday Captain. There was also a lively debate regarding paying for work on the square but fortunately, we didn’t descend to the level of Handforth Parish Council.

Key changes came with the appointment of Dan Jones as Club Secretary and Alex Brundle who becomes Clubhouse Manager. Another vital edition is the selection of Angela Woodward, who was headhunted by Natalie Beckell for the role of Welfare Officer. Jack Brundle becomes II’s skipper with Alan North as his tutor. Ian Bennett will take up a paid role of looking after the square as part of his day job.

The club is relatively well off financially, which allows us to freeze membership fees at £70.00 and weekly subs at £10.00. DJ is busy securing other funding as we look forward to the extension works starting in September. The architects drawings have gone to planning with the tender process starting at the end of February. The extension offers new changing areas, modern WC and shower facilities and an extended bar area.

All we can do now is hope that Covid-19 gives us a break so we can get ourselves a full season, which will allow us to see if we can maintain our status in County Two and also try to push the II’s up a level. By doing this, not only do we benefit from playing on good pitches, but it will potentially attract sponsorship and new members. It’s going to be one heck of a challenge but it is one we are up for!
