Oakley Colts Section

The Colts teams are overseen by Paddy Saines. All our Colts coaches are DBS-cleared (Disclosure and Barring Service) and are sponsored by the club to sit the ECB level one coaching qualification. Paddy, Dan Beckell, Mike Tiley and Kris Tucknott all hold ECB coaching qualifications. Adult members often join the team on Monday evening to pass on tips and knowledge to the colts.

The Colts section has experienced rapid growth in recent years and is a vital component of our future. Our Saturday league teams now include several players who have progressed through the Colts section. The Sunday-friendly team provides players aged thirteen and above with the opportunity to experience the longer form of the game while benefiting from tips and advice from seasoned players. Looking ahead to 2026, the addition of new bespoke net lanes will further enhance player development, allowing for more focused, high-quality coaching and practice.

Our Saturday and Sunday team captains maintain regular communication with the coaches to facilitate the development of young players and stay informed about when certain players are ready to transition from the Colts to an adult team. Parents can rest assured that players will only be encouraged to move into adult cricket when they are deemed ready for this transition.

In our Colts training sessions, our aim is to coach all aspects of cricket, ranging from basic fielding drills and catching to simulating match scenarios. Regular assistance from volunteers within the club ensures that sessions are conducted safely and utilise available time effectively. Furthermore, dedicated time is allocated for small groups to practice specific skills, a focus that will be further supported by the new bespoke net facilities planned for 2026.

Our overarching goal is to provide a friendly and enjoyable environment for all Colts, fostering their development and enhancing their enjoyment of the game.
