Weekend Preview – Oaks Look for a Double Double!

First’s Aiming to go on a Run

The First and Second XI go into this weekend’s fixtures looking for a repeat of their double success last weekend against Medstead and Oakmount respectively.

Captain, Gerry Dique, returns for the First’s, as does Michael Wood, in a batting lineup that also sees the return of Nellie Warner and Darrell Dimond.

Reunited: Dan and Gerry are set to open for the First XI

Kalum Sappumannage also steps up, boosting bowling options that will be missing Dan Jones, who will be driving a Go Kart round and round in circles, whilst James Bright will be with his brother, Scott, at the Glastonbury Festival, where they will be working out why they forked out £300 to watch Craig David.

For Scott to fly home from Texas (USA, not the defunct DIY store) and not turn out for the Oaks, is an indication of where his loyalties lie.

Seconds Look to Keep 100% Record

The Second XI travel to Basingstoke V protecting their 100% record without in-form captain, George Lethaby, who is on holiday in Bogna, wherever that may be…Italy possibly?  However, Jeff King (Jr) returns to bolster the bowling.

Chairman, Bob Lethaby, is expected to recover from a niggling knee injury in time to umpire and drop a catch as his teeth plough the turf, whilst emerging talent, Freddie Booth, makes his first competitive appearance in a team that features no fewer than 5 players that have emerged from the Oakley Colts set-up. Those being, Freddie Booth, B King, P King, Alex Ogden and Steve Savage.

The Sunday XI visit Crondall hoping to end a run of defeats that has seen skipper, Ian Bennett, receiving the dreaded vote of confidence from the board of Oakley directors who are under intense pressure from their four supporters as well as being embroiled in political infighting as to who should be responsible for feeding the local fox and forgetting to bring the float to the club on match days and training nights.

Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov do not know know what they are missing.

Good luck boys, bat well, bowl well, and get on Clive’s bus for what would be a unique Oakley double, double!
