Latest News as New Season Approaches!

Despite being battered by a conveyor belt of atlantic storms, we are now heading towards the end of the meteorological winter and the the new season can be seen on horizon. It won’t be long before training begins along with pre-season friendlies where catching the ball is only for the brave or foolish.

Off the pitch, committee members have been gearing up for our vital improvements at the club in 2020. Natalie Beckell started the additional money ball rolling by setting up a GoFund group which has had a staggering response from players, members, former members and supporters of the club. At the last count this had raised £1277.00.

Added to that, DJ (Dan Jones) has been beavering away generating money and we have exciting news about a substantial new sponsor coming shortly. Dan is also working on new board sponsors for the boundary fence, so if you know anyone who may wish one, please do get in contact. We need as much money as we can bring in to make substantial upgrades to the clubhouse. groundwork will start in earnest as soon as the weather settles down.

With regards to building towards the new season, we start indoor nets at 9:00 PM on Wednesday 26th February with three nets booked at Dummer. This goes on until the second week in April when we get our annual dose of hypothermia at Oakley Park. Friendly matches will start in early April. In the meantime the indoor league continues to be well supported by Oakley, who have 4 teams in the league.

The Colts section goes from strength to strength, with Nat, Dan, Phil, Dave and all various helpers propelling this section to unprecedented levels. Added to that, we are now in discussion with a well respected local cricketer who is looking to undertake the ‘All Stars’ cricket programme for future stars of Oakley. This is still in the development stages but it looks like it will be going ahead this season. More details will follow soon.

All in all, I am delighted by the efforts of members and the committee as we look to enhance our reputation and encourage new players and members to believe Oakley is a club to be part of. So much work goes on behind the scenes to push us forward and that has been reflected in generous donations and new sponsorship deals we are receiving. The next thing to do is get our annual memberships paid ASAP.

By doing this, we can start investing money back into the clubhouse so it continues to evolve into an attractive and user friendly building at a stunning venue. Oakley is wonderful place to spend a sunny Saturday or Sunday.

Keep up the amazing work folks!
